Master of Engineering (University of S.Australia), Diploma in Management. (MIM), ONC in Control Electrical Engineering, Lead Assessor, Certified TQM Consultant, Productivity Specialist (APS, U.S.A), DUni. (DMU).

Graduated as a Control Electrical Engineering Artificer in 1974, at the Naval Electrical School, HMS Collingwood in the United Kingdom. On return from the United Kingdom, was assigned to various naval shore establishments and ships in Malaysia. Served the navy for twenty-one years as an Engineer Officer in various engineering positions, with the final eight years with the Naval Dockyard as the Workshop Manager.
 

On retiring from the Navy, has been employed in several manufacturing organizations serving at various capacities ranging from Plant Engineer, Factory Manager to General Manager. In 1992, he was actively involved in international consultancy, managing productivity and quality-related projects in Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, China, and Malaysia.

Dr Soon successfully implemented Design For Six Sigma (DFSS) and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) program for a multi-national Japanese plant. Dr Soon has had the opportunity to assist the plant in the design, development, training and implementation of five DFSS projects and have successfully certified fifteen Lean-Sigma Green Belts.
 

Dr Soon has been lecturing in the MBA program for Dublin Metropolitan University (DMU) in Project Management and Total Quality Management for the past five years and due to his long-term commitment and contribution, Dublin Metropolitan University (DMU) awarded him an Honorary Doctor of the University in March 2006.
